Get started

CLI quickstart

Install the Plural Matter CLI and start talking to an evolving mind from your terminal.

The Plural Matter CLI is the fastest way to experience a mind before integrating the API into an application.

Use the CLI only on a trusted developer workstation. For an application, keep the project API key on your backend and follow the API quickstart.

Install

Install the public package with npm. Node.js 24 or newer is required.

npm install --global pluralmatter
pluralmatter --version

The source is available under Apache-2.0 at pluralmatter/cli.

Create a project API key in the Plural Matter Console, then run:

pluralmatter login

Paste the key into the hidden prompt. The CLI stores it in ~/.config/pluralmatter/config.json with owner-only permissions.

Create a mind

pluralmatter mind create "My first mind"

The new mind becomes the default for later commands. Use pluralmatter mind list and pluralmatter mind use <mind-id> to switch between minds.

Start a conversation

pluralmatter chat

Type a message and press Enter to send it. The session shows responses and minimal mind-update progress without displaying the mind's private contents or implementation.

Use /help for session commands and /exit to leave.

Send one message

Use send when you want one request and one response:

pluralmatter send "I'm building a robotics startup"
pluralmatter send "What do you know about me?"

Omit the message to enter it at the prompt, or pipe it from another command. Choose a provider or mind for one request when needed:

pluralmatter send --provider gemini --mind-id mind_example

Run pluralmatter --help for all commands and options. When you are ready to integrate Plural Matter into a product, continue with the API quickstart.
